Hot Rolled Sheet
Hot rolling involves the production of sheet metal from billets by passing the steel
through rollers while above its recrystallization temperature to desired physical
dimensions. Multiple passes through the rollers may be necessary to produce the
final dimensions. Hot rolled products like hot rolled steel bars are used in the welding and construction trades to make railroad tracks and I-beams, for example.
Hot rolled steel is used in situations where precise shapes and tolerances are not required.
